Are you tired of waiting for your dream kitchen for entertaining all your friends or that gorgeous bedroom for relaxing after a hard day at work? You aren’t alone. According to a report by Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies, home remodeling projects are expected to grow 5.9 percent by the end of the year, reaching nearly $125 billion.
Citing the slow recovery of the housing market and continuing low interest rates, the country as a whole seems more interested in home remodel projects now than in the recent past.
Some surveyed said they were interested in remodels because they did not want to sell their house now, either because they’ve just settled in or they are cautious about entering the housing market. Some said they would be preforming remodels in order to make their house more competitive on the market and wanted to attract more buyers. Others simply found that it was the right time in their life to take on a big project and are excited about the fantastic outcome that remodeling can bring.
With the increased interest in remodeling, it’s important to know that there will be times when the decisions can be a bit overwhelming. This quickly fades, though, as mere giddiness starts to set in. It’s also important to remember that this is an investment in your home, so you don’t want to hire conmen contractors or settle for the cheapest you can find. If I could give one piece of advice to all of the new households interested in remodeling, it would be to make sure they absolutely love everything about the design. Enjoy your new home inside the familiar shell.
